Bosnalijek as a general sponsor of the 5th Congress of BiH cardiologists and angiologists and the 1st Congress of BiH nurses and medical technicians in the field of cardiovascular medicine
Cardiovascular disease mortality has risen three-fold in BiH in the last 50 years.
Bosnalijek was a general sponsor of the 5th Congress of BiH cardiologists and angiologists and the 1st Congress of BiH nurses and medical technicians in the field of cardiovascular medicine which were held in the period from May 27-29 2010 in Sarajevo.
„Bosnalijek opted for this support as a part of nurturing and developing successful, business and amicable relationships with the BiH Association of Cardiologists, as well as a part of our continuous striving to support in the best possible way the improvement of health care system in Bosnia and Herzegovina”, Dr. Mirna Sijerčić, manager of Bosnalijek’s Cardiovascular product line said for Aktuelnosti.
The Congress was attended by more than 500 doctors from 20 countries, including distinguished guests such as the president of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) Prof. Dr. Roberto Ferrari from Italy, the future ESC president Prof. Dr. Michel Komajda from France, as well as the president of the World Heart Federation (WHF) Prof. Dr. Pekka Puska from Finland.
The Congress was inaugurated by the president of the BiH Association of Cardiologists, Prof. Dr. Enver Raljević who emphasized that the Association had existed for more than 50 years and that it was a member of the European and World Societies of Cardiology. In his speech Prof. Dr. Raljević said that cardiovascular profession in BiH had made a great progress, but that cardiovascular diseases both in the world and in our country were still the main causes of death and disease.
‘’The majority of our hospitals dispose of cardiovascular wards with special intensive care units; five health care institutions perform intensive and interventional cardiology, whereas four health care institutions perform cardiovascular surgery with state-of-the-art surgical procedures on the heart and blood vessels“, said Prof. Dr. Raljević. He also mentioned the significant but also disturbing results of a study:
„Mortality due to cardiovascular diseases has risen three-fold in the last 50 years and each year there is an increasing number of patients with myocardial infarction, stroke and other cardiovascular diseases. Over 50 % of men and women in BiH die from these diseases.“ Although highly significant, the current therapy only slightly reduces the high rate of cardiovascular diseases according to statistical data.
„Great success cannot be achieved without primary and secondary prevention. Smoking, high blood pressure, increased weight, fat and sugar in the blood and low physical activity should be targeted both in people at high risk of disease as in the whole of the population“, pointed out Prof. Dr. Raljević.
At the end of his speech, Prof. Dr. Raljević expressed his hope that apart from medical professionals all structures of the society would join the action of targeting the risk factors, as such an approach has already proven its efficiency by having stopped an increase in cardiovascular diseases and significantly reduced their number.
The Congress inauguration was also attended by Bosnalijek CEO Mr. Edin Arslanagić who said at that point:
„The messages from each Congress of cardiologists and angiologists so far have always been an indicator of the development of our cardiovascular line. Thanks to this fact, I can proudly say that currently Bosnalijek’s most significant and developed line of products is the cardiovascular one.“
Prof. Dr. Mirza Dilić, the representative of the BiH Association of Cardiologists handed out gold medals for successful cooperation and long-standing support to Prof. Dr. Michel Komajda from France, Prof. Dr. Vardas from Greece, and Prof. Dr. Çetin from Turkey. Charters for successful cooperation in the field of cardiovascular medicine were awarded to cardiologist associations from neighboring countries with which our cardiologist associations enjoy mutually supportive and beneficial relationships.
Prof. Dr. Enver Raljević handed the charters to the representatives of cardiologist associations Dr. Suzana Mihajlović from Serbia, Prof. Dr. Davor Miličić from Croatia and Prof. Dr. Miran Kenda from Slovenia.
An integral part of the Congress was a 50 minutes satellite symposium organized by Bosnalijek and held by the lecturers Prof. Dr. Vjekoslav Gerc and Prof. Dr. Mirza Dilić. Topics of the satelite symposium were “RAS block benefits in cardiovascular diseases” and “ACC-AHA” guidelines in the treatment of atherothrombosis”.
Bosnalijek’s advertising booth was one of the most visited ones during the three days of the Congress. This was in great part the result of a joint effort by Bosnalijek’s medical agents and Domestic Marketing associates which gladly provided the guests with all the required information. Bosnalijek team also organized quizzes and a prize game. Apart from good entertainment and interesting topics, the guests also had a chance to win valuable prizes. The Congress was attended by the representatives and members of cardiological societies from Turkey, Czech Republic, Greece, USA, Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia, Macedonia, Austria, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Switzerland, Russia, Denmark, Egypt, Kosovo, Albania, Romania and Montenegro.
